Merl Dee Thomas, 72 of Madera Ranchos died Friday, February 19, 2021. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Madera, California.

Merl Thomas was born February 17, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He entered the U.S. Army in 1966. During the Vietnam was Sgt. Thomas was awarded the Bronze Star For Valor in Vietnam. He is credited with saving the life of his commanding officer. He also cleared a mine field, enabling a helicopter to land and evacuate wounded souldiers.

He attended Golden Valley Baptist Church and Chowchilla Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, 4 Wheeling and Billiards.

Survivors include wife Connie Thomas, Son Merl Thomas, Daughters Patricia Johnson, Connie Bird, Sister Toni Pini, 8 Grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
