Mom was born to Leonides Alvarez and Pedro Gonzalez in Rockdale, Texas. Her mother died at a young age and her oldest sister "Chata" Josephine Mandujano raised her with loving care from age five. As a young adult she worked various jobs ending at the Swift Meat Company where she met her husband Enrique Esquivel, a WWII Army veteran. They married and lived in San Antonio Texas beginning their family. Seven children were born: Francisco, Enriquetta, and Leonardo, the three children preceding her in death. She is survived by four children who reside in Madera and Fresno: Henry, Sylvia, Abel, and Grace, in the area they migrated to in 1957, finding themselves working in the hot, sunny fields of California. Through hard work and low pay mom worked tirelessly and loved her family unconditionally. She never complained, was patient and kind, and showed us self-restraint through example. She was a devout Catholic. Prayed for everyone daily. She never turned anyone that needed help away. Following her husbands death in 1966 she managed with a grammar school education to buy a new home, encouraging us to succeed and leave fieldwork entirely. Once a full-time homemaker she displayed her skills as a cook and baker. Much like her father and brothers who were all bakers. She was a seamstress, making dresses, assembling the patterns from old newspaper; field work hats, and "flour sack" aprons! Once retired from homemaking she loved the casinos and trips with senior social clubs she joined. Las Progressistas, and CSO Community Service Organizations. She enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Mexico City. Mom left many friends and acquaintances. She loved her compadres, her neighbors. Her grandchildren were her world. Her sons can do no wrong. She had the sweetest smile, and always stylish, her lipstick and ear rings a daily staple. We were fortunate she remained independent through her 99th year. But this independence slowly gave way to her physical limitations. God began preparing her to leave. She finally was at peace knowing her work was done. We are all thankful for her life well lived. We love you mom.
