Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the death of Leslie L. Wilks.

He passed away at the age of 86 on November 9, 2022. Leslie was born March 28, 1936 in Huntington, West Virginia, son of the late Alexander and Effie Hazlett Wilks. He worked most of his life at the Container Corporation of America and served in the United States Army Reserve.

Leslie and Martha met, fell in love, and were married May 17, 1962. They shared a wonderful, loving, and supportive marriage. Leslie was a wonderful father to 4 children (Martha Wilks Fields, Kenneth Wilks, Theresa Wilks Harvey, & David Wilks). Leslie had 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Leslie was lucky enough to experience no snow in the winter and move to California with his wife of 60 plus years after his retirement with his son David, wife Julia and their daughter Julia. He and Martha lived happily in Madera, California for over 14 years.

Leslie was a hard working, caring, strong provider for his family throughout his entire life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his books of puzzles, raspberry ice tea, and Yahtzee. Leslie was also an avid movie buff. He was always in good spirits and if you saw him with his middle finger out he was just pointing at something. Leslie, was known by many as "Grandpa" or "Sug" which was given to him after the candy "Sugar Daddy" since he was so sweet and loving. He had a quiet and reserved demeanor but always knew how to light up a room with his jokes and warm hugs. Some would say that "there was just something about him". Funny enough even with his quiet manner, "Grandpa" was terrible at hide and seek. All he had to do was blow his nose into his hanky and you could find him anywhere.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shawn Wilks and Jennifer Wilks Carver and his daughter Martha Wilks Fields. Leslie is survived by his wife Martha, his children Kenneth, Theresa, David, and their families.

Leslie cherished every moment with his family and was always surrounded by love. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

As per Leslie's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. We appreciate your prayers and condolences. Please remember, that those that touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever!

May Leslie rest in peace, and by the grace of God may we all meet again.
